Rwanda Adoption Process

Once prospective families are ready to start their Rwanda International Adoption Process with Gladney, they will complete their adoption paperwork:

  • Gladney Application
  • Pathways Training if adopting a child over the age of 2
  • Adoption Home Study
  • Dossier

Once your dossier has been authenticated by the U.S. State Department and the Rwanda Embassy, it will be sent to our in-country facilitator in Kigali, Rwanda.  Our in-country facilitator will then submit your dossier to the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion in Rwanda. The Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF) reviews the paperwork and gives their approval for a referral. This process usually takes 6-9 months after the dossier is submitted to their office.

Gladney's experienced staff work closely with Rwanda officials to match a child to your family. Approximately 2-3 months after you have been approved by the Ministry to receive a referral, a referral will be made that includes the child's picture, medical history and social background. Each child is tested for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and other medical conditions. Once you have accepted the referral, our staff will complete the court process to assist you in legally adopting the child, and you will make travel plans.
